June 20, 2024 - Rutte Seals NATO Top Job After Lone Rival Drops Out - Outgoing Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte on Thursday clinched the race to become the next head of NATO at a pivotal time for the alliance, after sole challenger Romanian President Klaus Iohannis pulled out. June 18, 2024 - The Netherlands set to meet Nato 2% defence spending target - The Netherlands is set to top the Nato standard of spending at least 2% of GDP on defence this year, according to new figures from the organisation itself. In total, 22 of the 32 Nato countries will meet the requirement this year, the first time so many countries have done so, secretary general Jens Stoltenberg said in Washington on Monday. June 14, 2024 - Delivery of First Dutch C-390 Military Transport Aircraft Delayed - The Netherlands said the delivery of its first C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft will be delayed by over a year due to ongoing negotiations with a potential procurement partner. Defense secretary Christophe Van der Maat told the Dutch parliament that the original 2026 delivery of the C-390 will slide to late-2027 because the country plans to jointly purchase the planes with Austria. June 10, 2024 - Netherlands to Invest Over $500M to Spur Domestic Defense Production - The Dutch government announced major steps to kickstart domestic defense production and assist Ukraine. It includes an investment of 400 million euros ($432 million) for the domestic production of infantry fighting vehicles (IFV) for Ukraine and domestic use. A total of 180 (out of 230) CV90 IFVs will be produced in the country under a Swedish initiative, NOS reported, citing the outgoing Defense Minister Kajsa Ollongren. Read more

June 07, 2024 - Belgian, Dutch Navy Frigates to Get New Surveillance Radars - Danish firm Terma has signed a contract to supply new radars for the Belgian and Dutch Navy’s anti-submarine warfare (ASW) frigates. Terma will work closely with shipbuilder Damen Naval to integrate its SCANTER 6002 naval surveillance radars, which will give the ships multi-frequency scanning, X-band technologies, and small target detection algorithms. June 07, 2024 - Dutch invest in building tanks for Ukraine, developing drones - The Netherlands and Denmark are putting a combined €400 million into a Swedish fund to build a total of 230 armoured tanks for Ukraine, most of which will be built in the Netherlands by an “important and established” Dutch company, defence minister Kajsa Ollongren said on Friday. June 03, 2024 - Military Training for 300 Ukrainian Marines - The Netherlands has concluded a secretive training project for 300 Ukrainian marines to support them in the conflict in their country. The four-month effort provided amphibious lessons for the troops with the support of Dutch Marine Corps specialists. Other preparations focused on trench-based deployments and urban warfare tactics.
