May 30, 2024 - F-35 to take over nuclear role of the Netherlands within NATO from F-16 - The Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) is set to take a next step in the transition from the F-16 to the F-35. On 1 June 2024, the advanced fighter aircraft will fully take over the nuclear role of the Netherlands within NATO from the F-16. The Netherlands is one of the NATO Allies that contribute Dual-Capable Aircraft to NATO’s nuclear deterrence and is the first European country transitioning to the F-35 in that context. Read more
May 28, 2024 - The Netherlands spearheads initiative to jointly deliver Patriot system for Ukraine, calls on other European nations to contribute - The Dutch government proposes to quickly assemble a Patriot air defense system in close cooperation with several partners and deliver it to Ukraine. May 23, 2024 - Netherlands to Send New YPR Infantry Vehicle Fleet to Ukraine - The Netherlands has announced a new donation of YPR armored infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) to Ukraine at the request of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Fitted with a remote-controlled weapon station, the YPR-765s will be used for transport, reconnaissance, and attack and defense missions alongside the country’s current IFV fleet. Read more
May 17, 2024 - Netherlands Opens Medical Training Center for Urban Warfare in Hilversum - The Netherlands has opened a new medical training center for urban warfare at the Korporaal Van Oudheusden barracks in Hilversum. Construction began in October 2023 to support the armed forces’ medical response teams at the Dutch Military Medical Education and Training Center (DGOTC). Read more
May 15, 2024 - Netherlands to Receive Apache Helicopter Simulators - The US Army has awarded Florida-based simulator company Applied Visual Technology Inc. (AVT) a contract to deliver AH-64E Apache helicopter trainers to the Royal Netherlands Air Force. The $28.3-million foreign military sale will supply two of the firm’s proprietary Targeted Fidelity Apache Tactical Trainer (TFATT) platforms that each incorporate a pilot seat, a widescreen display unit, controls, and a cockpit for immersive rotorcraft preparations.
