March 20, 2024 - NATO Innovation Fund to Establish its Headquarters in the Netherlands - The headquarters of the NATO Innovation Fund (NIF) will be located in the Netherlands, the NIF has announced today. The NIF is one of NATO's initiatives to drive innovation within the alliance. The Netherlands had proposed within NATO that the offices for the fund be established in the Netherlands. That was a close collaboration between the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA), Techleap.nl and the Ministry of Defence. The NIF will be officially launched during the NATO summit in Vilnius in July this year. Read more
March 19, 2024 (Originally) - D-Letter regarding replacement of submarine capacity - On Friday, March 15, STASDEF announced that the bid evaluation produced a distinctive ranking with a clear winner: Naval Group. An important step. After all, the process has been long and has demanded a lot from all parties involved in this process. That we are entering a new phase is therefore good. March 8, 2024 (Originally) - A-letter for acquisition of 6 amphibious transport ships - Starting in 2032, the Royal Navy will have a new ship class consisting of six new ships: amphibious transport ships. The six are to replace the four Holland-class patrol ships and the two LPDs Zr.Ms. Rotterdam and Zr.Ms. Johan de Witt. Read more
March 5, 2024 (Originally) - A-letter cites major role for Dutch maritime industry in replacement LC Frigates - The “Replacement LC Frigates” (Air Defense and Command Frigates) project will replace the LC frigates during the 30s. The current 4 frigates commissioned from 2001 – 2005 are being replaced by 4 new ships, but those frigates will be commissioned later; they have been delayed 2 years. The new frigates are now expected in 2034. Read more
March 01, 2024 - The Netherlands to donate watercraft to Ukraine - The Netherlands is to provide fast and highly manoeuvrable rubber and patrol boats as well as assault craft to Ukraine. The Netherlands also contributing € 250 million to the Czech initiative to order large numbers of artillery shells for Ukraine in the short term. This was reported by the government in a letter to the House of Representatives.
